Revision lumbar laminectomy surgery accounts for a significant number of surgical procedures each year. Increasing rates of revision surgery within the lumbar spine have been reported. The significance and etiologies of revision lumbar surgery are reviewed. Techniques in avoiding and dealing with epidural scar tissue are discussed. The relevant outcomes following revision laminectomy are reviewed. Strategies of avoiding revision surgery and associated complications are presented.
