The complexity of current spinal surgery techniques and instrumentation has led to the development of image guidance technologies. Image guidance involves a series of components, notably, a system for image acquisition and a computerized system for image processing and user interface. This article reviews the options that currently exist for image guidance in spine surgery and the literature on cliincal applications of image-guided techniques in spine surgery.
